Tips concerning older clients for playchess

Answer

The functionality of the chess server is continually being extended. If, when logging in, the server indicates that there is an update, you should implement it. The old versions (at present Fritz 12/Fritz 11, etc.) are unfortunately no longer compatible with the present technical capacities of the server.

In order to ensure your play goes smoothly, all players require to be using an up-to-date version of the access software.  An up-to-date one is the freely available client software which is at your disposal on following the following link to download it.

Alternatively you can work with the content of the server by using the browser version. Current versions such as Fritz15 , ChessBase 14 or Komodo 10 work with the current client software.

On your first login with the new software a comment will be shown stating that an old version is being used. This comment appears automatically if the player name is still linked to the area for older versions of the software.

Please ignore this and manually change into the main playing hall.

Alternatively logging on to the chess server is also possible without a software download by proceeding directly via a browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox).

In this case all you require in your browser is to select the address play.chessbase.com.
